New Tool… MeeboMe!

Personal, Websites Comments

I have been working with this tool for some time now. MeeboMe is a small but powerful contact manager that users can quickly and easily embed into their website. The tool logs onto Meebo and check whether the owner of the website you are visiting is online and available for chat.

I’ve just installed the widget into my sidebar. You can see it by scrolling down to the bottom of the list. Go ahead, give it a whirl and see if you like it. If anybody is interested, I can install the code on to your custom sites within a matter of minutes. Just make sure you register for an account at Meebo first and then contact me through my widget or my contact form on this blog.

ChaCha and blinkx Announce Partnership

Links, Websites Comments

This just keeps getting better.

ChaCha, heralded as the human powered search engine has just recently announced a partnership with blinkx to provide video content (over 7,000,000 hours of it) for the search engine to index. You can read more about it here.

The thing that I love about this search engine, besides the fact that it’s local to me, is that they are different. They use the collective power of “guides” to help you find what you need on the web and improve your search. They employ over 30,000 guides that can help you find what you need.

My favorite new tool - convert c# to vb

Development, Websites Comments

I found my favorite new tool. Since I have limited time, I can’t spend all the time to learn different programming languages. Because I learned .net using vb, I find it very frustrating when I can’t always manually convert c# to use in my apps. So, I just found this and it will significantly reduce the time I spend on my apps Plus, you can convert back to c# from vb if you so choose. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

Postlets.com

Because I work with real estate agents everyday, I get a unique perspective on it in general. Now, I’m not one to inform you of the intricacies of a real estate transaction and I am surely not qualified to talk about the market economy (that’s better left to the agents, brokers, and others who work tirelessly to help people like us buy or sell a property). But, I do find some neat websites out there. My favorite website for today is Postlets.com. This website helps agents set up a listing page and post it to several websites, including Trulia, craigslist, and more. Best of all, it’s free. Gotta love that web 2.0.

And the website isn’t just for real estate. You can also sell cars and rentals too. I would like to see them support a number of products and services too, but maybe that’s in a future update, we’ll see

Okay, I got this in email. There’s a guy (Justin) who is walking around 24 hours a day with a webcam strapped to his head streaming the video online. Users can follow him around and watch him in his sleep and on dates. It’s a bold leap forward in the world of live audio/video streaming on the internet. So, if you’ve got some time to burn, check it out at justin.tv.

My Official Review of GoDaddy.com Hosting

My Websites, Websites Comments

Previously I had shared with you and experience that I had with another hosy=ting company in which I was not happy with. This time I have found my webhost for life in GoDaddy.com.

I was initially sent to GoDaddy when I was having issues with Gate.com. I was looking for a reasonably priced webhost that would host ASP.net 2.0 apps with no extra charge and the ability to have control over the DNS and hosting. GoDaddy was the perfect solution.

I  frequently need access to the hosting admin to change the app roots, the domain, the email accounts, etc., because the clients that I deal with are important to me and I pride myself in providing fast service. I can on-the-fly provide that service with no questions asked and, more importantly, no calls to their customer service to have a “ticket” started. In fact, I think I have only called their customer service once in the time that I have been with them (since November) and they have called me multiple times thanking me for being a client and asking if there was anything they could do to make my transition more smooth.

Never, with any webhost, have I ever been treated so well. I even received a  welcome packet in the mail within a month reminding me of the number to customer service and what my customer number was. They even put in on a handy reminder card.

Now for those of you who are interested in the science and hard-facts, I will tell you this. Their server has been the fastest that I have ever hosted on. I have hosted with companies that have taken over a minute to return a page on the server, to companies that have been only seconds. When it comes down to it, their’s is fast and responsive. Their domain control center is very advanced. I can forward and mask my domains with a minimum of effort (and more importantly, with no charge) and still access the DNS.

Every domain comes with email forwarding (at least that I have seen) and you can forward using any of your domains. They support the majority of domain suffixes including the new .mobi (for dedicated mobile sites).

Now, I don’t want to look like a walking advertisement for GoDaddy. Sure enough, their ads don’t need my unshapely body. But aside from their ads, their service is in a class of it’s own. If you have any specific questions, just ask.

I’ve used this site for about two months and I love it. More than anything, I was looking for a place to host common media files that I was working on with my websites and client sites. This site solved it all for me. They give me 25gb FREE which if you’ve dealt with box.net, you’ll know that it’s significantly better.

They offer file management, photo, music, and video sharing just like the other ones and can host a large multitude of files (zip and psd too). So check them out if you need online file storage.

The neat thing is that this pure fiction. This gal is an actor. It’s pretty impressive, but you can see moments when she goes too far.
